Actually, I could have written the same headline for two weeks ago, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. Our Cityshop (highly expensive expat grocery store where you can buy Cheerios and the like) has been carrying Christmas cookies, Advent calendars and the rest of the trimming since before Thanksgiving. But the big decorations are now moved out and the never-ending Christmas carol loop is playing in every department store.

A Look at Genoa

Genoa is a city often overlooked by travelers but well worth a visit. In the past decade Genoa has been spruced up quite a bit and now has a nice port area and a UNESCO World Heritage site, its 16th century Renaissance and Baroque palaces, i Palazzi dei Rolli. Several of the palazzi, including the stunning Palazzo Reale, are now museums. For a bird’s eye view of Genoa you can go up above the port in the Bigo, a panoramic capsule (photos and information), or take the public elevator up to Piazza Castello. Genoa also makes an excellent base for visiting the Italian Riviera.

It’s Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas at Disney World!

Cecil Gordon of Walt Disney World Holiday Services is seen here touching up the face of a six-foot-tall angel tree-topper inside one of the vacation kingdom’s holiday warehouses. The angel will eventually make its way to the top of the giant Christmas tree at Epcot during the holiday season. Behind-the-scenes at Disney World, Gordon and his colleagues are currently on round-the-clock schedules preparing 150 tractor-trailer truckloads of decorations for the 40-square-mile property that includes 24 resorts, four theme parks and Downtown Disney. That’s more than 1,500 Christmas trees to be set in place, 15 miles of garland to be strung, 44 snow machines to be tested, at last count 1,314 wreaths to be hung, 10 miles of twinkling rope lights and 8.5-million lights to be strung… all before the holiday season begins this month.

Aruba, Curacao Look Beyond Oil, Seek Green Energy

Even the biggest fans of Aruba and Curacao must admit that it’s jarring for visitors to see the big oil refineries on these islands spewing tons of pollutants across the otherwise brilliant blue Caribbean skies.

It’s part of the reality of living in a world fueled by hydrocarbons, and some of the fuel made here is destined for U.S. gas tanks. However, its good to know that both islands are also taking steps toward a greener future.

The Tera Kora and Playa Kanoa wind farms in Curacao, for example, will soon put out a combined 30 megawatts of clean power, and Aruba also is building a 30 megawatt wind farm — a great legacy for future generations of residents of two islands where Dutch heritage and steady trade winds makes alternative energy projects like these a natural fit.
