Last week, AAA projected that after last year’s decline in travel, the number of Americans traveling this Labor Day holiday weekend will increase nearly 10 percent from 2009. That translates into approximately 34.4-million travelers taking a trip of at least 50 miles away from home; and, of those travelers, 91% are expected to reach their destination by driving. While the distance traveled by Americans is expected to decrease slightly, spending will increase due to higher rates for airfares, hotels and rental cars. The 2010 Labor Day holiday travel period is defined as Thursday, September 2 to Monday, September 6.
